We strive to enrich quality of life for Oregonians while helping resolve many of the immediate needs of the people and communities across our state.
The PGE Foundation
The PGE Foundation is the corporate foundation of Portland General Electric. It was founded in 1997 with an endowment designed to last in perpetuity to improve the quality of life for Oregonians.

Since its inception, The PGE Foundation has granted awards totaling more than $18 million across the state. We award grants to organizations that support what we consider pillars of a vibrant society — education, arts and culture and healthy families.

Community 101
The Foundation is best known for its award-winning student grantmaking program, Community 101. With the generous support of Portland General Electric employees, numerous foundations, businesses, individual donors, schools and nonprofits, Community 101 introduces young people to issues in Oregon’s communities and shows them how to take responsibility for being part of the solution.

Since the PGE Foundation created this program in 1997 as a way to leverage philanthropic outreach, Community 101 has impacted over 8,300 high school students across the state who have awarded more than $1.88 million to Oregon nonprofits and schools.

In 2011, the PGE Foundation and The Oregon Community Foundation entered into a second three year Memorandum of Understanding to expand Community 101 to approximately 100 schools by the 2013 – 2014 school year. The first three years of the Memo of Understanding were very successful — growing the program from 57 to 75 schools participating in the program. The Oregon Community Foundation continues to administer the Community 101 program, while the PGE Foundation remains the largest provider of grantmaking funds to Community 101 students.
