Oregon nonprofits awarded nearly $700,000
by PGE Foundation for first quarter 2008
Grants focus on education, literacy, domestic violence, health care and the arts
Portland, Ore. — Nonprofits across the state got a boost from the PGE Foundation — Portland General Electric's corporate foundation — through 61 grants totaling $572,046 in the first quarter of 2008. The Foundation has distributed more than $11.5 million to Oregon nonprofits during the last 11 years.
In addition, the PGE Foundation Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation contributed $100,000 to Community 101 for the 2007/2008 school year. Community 101, the PGE Foundation's 11-year-old student grantmaking program, operates 36 programs that reach more than 1,200 youth around the state from Portland to Pendleton and from Roseburg to Tillamook.
Every year, the PGE Foundation focuses on supporting Oregon nonprofits in three categories: strengthening and delivering quality education, promoting healthy families and individuals, and helping to make arts and culture accessible to all Oregonians, especially children. This quarter, grants focused on college scholarships, literacy, domestic violence, health care and arts education.
The Foundation made 15 grants totaling $209,500 to enhance education across the state. A major grant of $100,000 to the Oregon Independent College Foundation continues a tradition of long-term commitments to leading education programs. The grant will fund 40 PGE Foundation scholarships for students attending Concordia, George Fox, Lewis & Clark, Linfield, Marylhurst, Pacific, Reed, University of Portland, Warner Pacific and Willamette. This is the 55th year PGE has made a contribution to OICF.
